Social Distancing by Teresa Palmer and Sarah Olsen

Hello to our YZM community. In times like these we are so grateful to have a place to communicate and connect with all of you. I asked Teresa if she would send a video and let us know her plans on Social distancing and what that will look like for her family. Currently, things are very serious in many countries all over the world. Thank you to those who are staying home to slow the spread and give the health care system a chance to catch up. We are all in this together.

What actions are you taking?

-social distancing
-only mandatory ventures out into the community for food
-staying away not only for you family but for the health and safety of others in the community who may be more vulnerable.
-Remember you staying at home helps to slow the spread of the virus thus giving the hospitals a chance to help those who are already in need of care.

Are the kids staying in school?

-Most of the US schools are closed and it seems that Australia is headed that direction.
-Prepping for home education
-Scholastic has set up free daily online courses for grades pre-K - 6+. You can access it here.

What does it look like for our family?

-Staying home
-Getting up and getting showered and ready even though you are staying home is a healthy way to start the day.
-Having a routine: time to play outside, snack time like your kids would have at school, lunch, games, reading and rest time.
-Having good communication with your kids: talk to them about this new adventure you are on and empower your kids to be responsible citizens protecting their bodies by washing hands will help protect the family and others.

Survival tips?

-Check in with your partner.
-Are you fearful? Communicate and share knowledge with your friends and reach out if you are feeling overwhelmed.
-Do something for yourself, go for a walk in your neighborhood, take a nature walk with your kids, have a bath and listen to a book.

Final musing:

-Use this time to connect with your family.
-Hopeful that taking care of one another during a time of crisis and uncertainty will make our communities stronger and unite us.
