Week 28 Pregnancy VLOG baby 3 by Sarah Olsen

WHAT WEEK?

28

HOW BIG IS BABY?

An Eggplant and possibly 2.5 pounds but maybe more with how big my babies are

WHAT’S SOMETHING NEW THIS WEEK?

We are in IDAHO!!

MOST CHALLENGING MOMENT

I was a bit worried about my circulation for our trip out to Idaho.  I ordered compression socks online but they didn’t come in time so my friend Anna dropped two pair off at my house the night before we were leaving.  I worked really hard on our 17 hour drive to move my body when I could and keep my blood flowing in my legs so they wouldn’t swell and hurt.

ALSO: This was not your traditional road trip. We were hauling our trailer to sleep in and when we would stop to go to the bathroom we would use the trailer and or a bucket because of COVID we couldn’t use public bathrooms.  We also had to get creative about the food we brought in our cooler. I had to make sure I had enough food for snacks, lunch and dinner in our trailer fridge and cooler and some things we could cook for dinner and breakfast at the campsite. This took some planning but it was SO worth it.

MOST EXCITING MOMENT

The moment we pulled into our campsite in Utah and got set up for the night it felt like we were on a very special adventure! The kids loved how the cottonwood trees made it look like it was snowing and we took down their bikes and scooters so they could get a little exercise while I made dinner for the evening. (quesadillas)

EXERCISE

I wasn’t able to do my Every Mother workout while we were on the road but as soon as we arrived in Idaho I got back to my daily routine.  It makes me feel so much stronger.  I can’t tell what position the baby is in so I am going to have to start paying attention to where she is kicking me so I can have a handle on it around 30 – 32 weeks so I can update my doctor.

MEALS

I thought it might be fun to let you know what we ate on the road to Idaho.

We packed:

Cheese and crackers

Pasta Salad

Salmon Salad with GF bread for sandwiches

We had pre made crepes that we would eat for the morning breakfast.

Tortillas, cheeses and veggies for Quesadillas

A GF croissant

Nuts and dried mango.

Apples lots of Organic Pink lady apples

FOOD AVERSIONS

Anything with a real fishy smell but the good news is I am enjoying most food right now.

CRAVINGS

We ordered lots of different gluten free pancake mixes to take with us and im starting to realize it might be one of my favorite foods.  This always happens to me in the last trimester, I get such a sweet tooth and have to reign it in. For all my Celiac and GF friends out there my favorite pancake mix is Pamelas. It makes amazing waffles and Pancakes and I never use oil I always melt extra butter in the batter and in the pan to make them a little bit crispy on the edges.

REFLECTIONS

Idaho living!! It wasn’t until we got here and my kids looked at me before hugging nana and papa to make sure it was ok to give them a hug that I realized how much we deeply missed that connection with others.  I have felt it for sure missing time with my friends and seeing my children at their schools. Being pregnant we have taken the seriousness of isolation to a whole other level. I think Esmé and Wyatt hugged their grandparents, sat on their laps, asked for more books and more time together more than I can remember. They missed this intimate connection with their family and they still miss it with their friends. We are isolating here with Eric’s mom and dad and Daniela and Dave and the cousins and it really is amazing to have this time together.  Every year we come here for a month but this year it feels even more special and needed. Yes, we may have all peed in buckets on the side of the road never entering a public place to get here and keep everyone safe, but it was worth it.  Seeing the kids so happy to play with their cousins and to have this time to enjoy their company means everything right now. I know I will never forget this pregnancy or this time that we spent here in Idaho this summer, how different it is and yet the most important pieces are still there and making every moment magic.
