A nourished family begins with a nourished mama by Jess Anderson
After working with parents of babies and toddlers for over two years, here is what I now know to be true:
“A nourished family begins with a nourished mama.”
As a certified nutrition consultant for babies, pregnancy and postpartum, I’ve worked with parents who are mainly wanting to sort out their child’s nutrition and get them eating more - or more wholefoods.
I’m incredibly passionate about supporting mothers in this area, a true passion of mine is connecting parents with understanding how mealtimes look and feel for their child.
All of the parents I work with simply want the best start in life for their child.
So then when I say, “How about you? How are your mealtimes going? How is your health?”
Parents often look at me in wonder. But I haven’t come to see Jess to talk about me. This is meant to be about my child not about me. Why is she wasting time talking about me for?
The missing piece of the puzzle often is our own nourishment as mothers.
We can forget that we are the role models of nourishment. We are the leaders in our homes. We set the tone for the entire family.
And a nourished family begins with our own nourishment first.
This then gives us the capacity as mothers to make the changes for our entire family that we desire.
It also gives us the power and energy to show up as the version of ourselves we desire to in all of the roles we have as mothers.
I learned this the hard way through my transition to motherhood. I became so immersed in the role and gentle parenting that I completely lost connection with myself as an individual outside of it.
My own nourishment took a backseat and the result was a woman who loved motherhood, but didn’t recognise her life outside of it.
So now, my passion is leading the way of change by changing the narrative about stressed, burnt out and overwhelmed mothers. That’s not what I signed up for. And I know it’s not what so many other mothers didn’t sign up for either.
But where do we start when we feel so weighed down by the daily life of being a mother?
I’m here to reconnect mothers with their essence so they can connect with this in their parenting, in their relationships, in their work, in their everyday life.
It all begins with you.
