Postpartum VLOG baby Winter Weeks 5+6
What Week?
Postpartum Week 5 and 6
How big is baby?
Not sure but headed back to the doctor on the 16th
somewhere in the 14 pound range?
Whats something new this week?
We came to the end of the first 40 days.
Most challenging moment?
I had a few days where I needed to do some work from bed and this just happened to be the same time Winter needed to be on me non stop. Or maybe because my energy shifted hers did to. I just had to take a breath and not get overwhelmed or stressed and give Winter the cuddles, nursing and love she needed to make her feel more comfortable and settled.
Something you loved this week?
We spent my 40th day in Malibu. We took Winter to the beach for an hour and she slept in my carrier the whole time. It was a gorgeous fall day, my kids played in the ocean and took some major deep breaths of the cool salty air. I was nervous about the car ride and how she would feel out of the house but she did great and slept most of the time we were gone.
Mama time?
I took some time over the week 5 weekend to relax, watch movies and rest in bed. Eric took the kids to Malibu and I snuggled in with Winter and spent a lot of time reflecting over the last year.
What am I eating ?
Sonya my bestie and PP doula/nanny has been taking the most amazing care of me. She has made some unbelievable food. We did 40 days of eating soup along with many other nutritious dishes. One of my favorites was a very simple soup that I named Thanksgiving soup. It transported me to the holidays and felt so comforting. Recipes and a PP guide to come.
My body.
My body is healing. I am still bleeding a little bit but I a not sure if I have started my period or if this is just a bit more from my uterus. I saw my doctor at week six and he said that everything looks good and my body is healing well. So I will continue to pay attention to what is happening but it feels good to know we have made it to 6 weeks and we are both doing well.
Checking in.
It’s bittersweet coming to the end of 40 days. I felt a bit emotional because this has been such a precious time with my family. Our kids have bonded with Winter in this amazing way and she has started to smile in the mornings when she sees them. When Winter cries Esmé runs to her and rubs the place between her eyes putting a paci in her mouth, shushing her until she falls back asleep. She is very maternal and has some amazing instincts. Yes she is a typical 4 year old who tries to pick her up and is sometimes too rough, but her ease with caring for her sister is something I didn’t expect.
Even though our days may become a be a bit more distracted and busy, this time we spent at the beginning will forever be cherished. I wrote Sonya a letter of gratitude as I feel she made every tea, soup and snack plate with a heart full of love while looking after my older kids as they were on zoom school along with a million other things. It is thanks to her that this time and transition went so well.
