Recipe: Christmas Tree Toast by Jennah Jensen

The holiday season is the perfect time to get creative in the kitchen. I absolutely love making Christmas Tree Toast because it’s a fun twist on the tried and true avocado toast and it can be served at breakfast or as a snack. Using various toppings to decorate is not only fun but it’s also a great way to introduce new foods or to incorporate foods you don’t often use. Plus, inviting your littles to help you decorate makes for the sweetest festivity that doesn’t require too much prep-work! It’s a real holiday win!

           Ingredients :

  • 4-6 bread slices

  • 1-2 avocados

  • pinch of each: salt, garlic powder, onion powder

  • + cookie cutter of choice

           Topping Suggestions:

  • blueberries

  • pumpkin seeds

  • hemp seeds

  • cilantro

  • red onion

  • colored bell peppers

           Method:

  • In a bowl mash up 1-2 avocados into a guacamole consistency. You can keep it simple with just a pinch of salt or bump up the flavor with a dash of garlic powder and onion powder.

  • Next toast your bread. If you’re using a toaster-oven you can cut the shape before toasting it, this way seems to be less messy. However, if you’re using a traditional toaster then cut the shape after toasting the bread. I find that long sourdough slices work best as they’re big enough that you can usually get two shapes out of one slice.

  • Now it’s time to decorate! Really any topping goes! You can just see what you have on hand and roll with it! Some of the toppings I enjoy using are blueberries, pumpkin seeds, hemp seeds, cilantro, red onion and colored bell pepper. Serve prepared or turn it into a festive activity by getting all the toppings ready to go and invite your little ones to help you decorate!
