Rewrite Your Movie: 3 Ways to Feel Free When Your Life is All about Obligations by RJ Spina
Do your never-ending responsibilities make you feel like you’re wearing a strait jacket whose iron clasps are your inescapable obligations? Are the demands of your time and energy like the pair of tight-fitting jeans you just can’t squeeze into anymore? Do you yearn to throw off your many hats and untie your hands so you can immerse yourself into something that makes you feel alive, free, and passionate once again?
There is no number of clothing metaphors (three is enough, right?) that could adequately or accurately describe what it feels like when the onerous weight of numerous responsibilities has usurped our sense of inner freedom and joy.
Through working with thousands of clients and students over the last seven years, I have discovered three highly effective tools that engender a tangible return to freedom and liberation even whilst juggling a responsibility filled and jam-packed life.
1. Put it in your calendar
None of us really have time. Time is a unit of measure used to track changes. Meaning, it doesn’t authentically or tangibly exist. We have become a slave to the concept of time. Let’s realize the truth right now. We are powerful creators. We make the time! Choose an activity, and event, anything that speaks to your soul, that you genuinely are excited about.
Circle a day on your calendar where you promise yourself to have that tangible experience. That moment on that day now belongs to you. Feel the freedom, confidence, and expansion in claiming something that is just for you. Let nothing and no one infringe upon your renewed passion for yourself.
2. Turn responsibility into play
See your life as a joy and every moment will be play time. What we view as onerous responsibilities, are in fact, acts of co-creation that we have given birth to. When we shift our inner understanding, our outer perception will change. Detach from the identification to the responsibilities and the tangible sense of relief from the weight of them will invigorate and renew you.
That’s because the energy you were using to give gravitas to the obligations is now returning and empowering you. Once you have your energy back, the shift into play (using your energy) will be tangible. Know this, all experiences truly are playtime for an immortal soul. The question is, what kind of visionary movie do you want to play the lead character in?
3. Ask for help
Life is a gift, and like all gifts, they are best when shared. Many of us have been programmed into believing that asking for help is a sign of weakness. Actually, it’s a sign of wisdom and maturity. Some of us have been shamed into feeling like we don’t deserve help or assistance. We would feel guilty if somebody- anybody – actually cared enough to do something out of the kindness of their heart.
If you feel overwhelmed, don’t be embarrassed to ask for help. Every single person on this planet knows what it feels like to carry a heavy burden. Many, including total strangers - would love to help but they have never even given the opportunity. That is because we have been conditioned not to ask. Be bold and empower yourself. Ask for help. You deserve it. Now claim it.
